Steven commenced his working career in 1994 as a commercial lawyer at Bell Gully. Since 1997, he has gained more than 13 years’ investment banking experience, including seven years at Macquarie Bank (five years in London) originating, structuring and leading the project management of complex cross-border financing transactions. In recent years, working at both PricewaterhouseCoopers and Northington Partners (since early 2008), Steven’s focus has been on merger and acquisition and capital raising transactions in New Zealand where he has been involved in all aspects of deal origination, deal structuring, deal execution and leading negotiations with investor, legal, accounting and banking transaction counterparties.

Recent Experience

• Negotiation assistance and structuring advice to ING (New Zealand) Limited in relation to an offer to investors in two frozen CDO/CLO funds with a face value exceeding $600 million
• Structuring and analytical advice to the Maori Trustee in respect of an investment in a milk processing plant
• Provision of an independent report in relation to the establishment of Heartland Building Society resulting from the merger of MARAC Finance Limited, Southern Cross Building Society and Canterbury Building Society
• Lead advisor to a North American corporate in relation to the acquisition of a New Zealand based business valued at approximately $100 million
• Provision of an independent report in relation to the purchase by Combined Building Society of PGG Wrightson Finance Limited
• Advice in relation to the sale of a privately owned business with a leading market position in the agricultural sector
